Shootout on Whiskey Row

Location: Downtown Prescott - corner Montezuma & Goodwin Streets

Event Date: Sat Jul 23, 2016 thru Sun Jul 24, 2016

We hope that all of our event participants, guests, members of the public and “just everyone” had as much fun and got as much out of our 11th Annual Shootout on Whiskey Row as the members of the Prescott Regulators & Their Shady Ladies did.  We could not have asked for a more perfect weekend (except maybe it was a little “hot”).

It was our privilege to announce our new scholarship program to people in attendance and present our first $2,000 contribution to the Yavapai College Foundation who will be administering this scholarship for us.  We are committed to benefitting our local veterans and their families as they work on their higher education goals.

On Saturday the Prescott Long Riders, a group of about 40 equestrian riders, came through town and right down Whiskey Row flying flags and looking sharp in their identical red shirts.  This trail ride was to bring recognition of the National Day of the Cowboy which is part of this 2-day Shootout weekend.  The group was led by Mayor Harry Oberg waving to the crowd of spectators along the street.

The 2-day re-enactment competition was top notch.  The four participating groups are the “best of the best” and come from Arizona and California.   The results of this competition is as follows:

First Place:  Guns of the Roundtable from Riverside, California

Second Place:  Guns and Garters from Running Springs, California

Third Place:  The Arizona Ghostriders from Tucson, Arizona

The Paul Narwold People’s Choice Award:  The Boothill Express from Mesa, Arizona

The awards for acting in the re-enactments was very challenging as there are so many competent, funny, and capable participants.  Here are the winners:

From the Guns of the Roundtable:  Melanie Caldwell

From Guns and Garters:  Charles Meyerett

From the Arizona Ghostriders:  Arizona Red

From The Boothill Express:  Daryl O’Neal

And….the Best Overall Actor:  Daryl O’Neal from The Boothill Express

The participants in the costume contest were decked out in their finest “old west” (late 1800’s) finery.  Watching these individuals always inspires re-enactors to continue to work on their costuming.

And what about the western dance on Saturday evening.  The dance “floor” (dirt?) was full throughout the evening with spectators sitting on hay bales and in the bleachers.

The Prescott Regulators & Their Shady Ladies, Inc. was also pleased to present Honorary memberships to Craig & Sandy Brown, Mayor Harry Oberg, Mike & Mindy Weisman, Mike & Kelly Johnson and Shorty & The Wild bunch.  These individuals have contributed significantly in supporting the group and have earned this honor.

Our group also awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award to Dee & Dinky Payne from Guns and Garters.  This couple has gone out of their way to answer any call for “help” from us, and has brought their group to many, many events when the Prescott Regulators called out for assistance.

Finally, to all of the vendors and other individuals who added such interest to our event we thank you.  This may have been our merchandise vendors, participants in our children’s area, other local nonprofit groups who shared their organization’s information and the food vendors who were fabulous.  Our own group also had a terrific raffle booth, information booth and our merchandise booth with some great Prescott Regulators merchandise.

Please remember to think about the 12th Annual Shootout on Whiskey Row to be scheduled in July of 2017.  As always, it will probably be bigger and better than ever before!
